Graduation tears-from Mom of course

This week is the last week of school at our house! I LOVE summer break and the time we get to spend with everyone home together. Yes, its louder and crazier, but we like it that way! Lincoln graduated from preschool Tuesday night in the cutest little graduation ceremony you’ve ever seen! He sang, and danced, and even threw his hat right on cue! And when asked what he wants to be when he grows up, he melted the crowd with his response of “A UPS driver just like my Dad!”

As I watched him walk up and get his little diploma I realized we were both graduating. He’s my last little boy to head to school this fall. My last little hotwheel loving, dinosaur drawing, dirt ball smelling little boy. Yes, I have two girls younger than him, but recently we have had our last newborn, our last first birthday, our last first steps, and by the end of the year I will be done with diapers-for the first time in 17 years we wont be buying diapers! Okay, I’m not sad about that last one!

As I watched his dimpled little hand grab that diploma, I knew that I was graduating from a baby mom to a big kid mom. I wish that I could freeze this time where I am the center of their whole world, where anything can be fixed with a dum dum sucker, and where they are all tucked in safe under my roof at night. Next year Lincoln goes to Kindergarten and Lexie graduates High School. My days as a mama with ten kids under her roof are limited and in that moment I decided to cherish it all. To cherish the carpool lines, the mounds of laundry, the exploding applesauce pouches in my car, the always sticky fingers, and the never ending dishes, because tomorrow they will be bigger. Tomorrow they will need me a little less. Tomorrow they are one step closer to leading their own lives and I’m not ready yet.
